Filing for a Port Authority Commissioner's Position
Any eligible person may file for one of the two positions up for election in November 2023. The first day to file for election as a Port Commissioner for the upcoming November 7, 2023 election will be July 22, 2023. The last day to file for a Port Commissioner position will be August 21, 2023.

The Port office is generally open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Election - Tuesday, November 7, 2023
The Port of Bay City Authority of Matagorda County, Texas will hold an election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 for the purpose of electing two (2) Commissioners to six (6)-year terms each. The election will be a joint election with Matagorda County and the voting will occur at the various precinct/election locations established by the Matagorda County Clerk, (the “county’s election officer”).
The two (2) positions up for election will be Position Two (2) and Position Six (6). The general requirements to be eligible and qualifications to be elected as a Port Commissioner requires a person to be a resident of the district, a freehold property taxpayer, and a qualified elector in Matagorda County, Texas.
In addition to the general requirements, to be eligible to be elected as Port Commissioner to Position Two (2), a candidate must be a resident of Matagorda County Precinct Two (2), as Precinct Two (2) existed on August 28, 1967, which area is more fully shown and defined on a map in the Port Authority office, located at 1305 Seventh Street, Bay City, Texas.
To be eligible to be elected to Port Commissioner Position Six (6), a candidate must only meet the general requirements of being a resident of the district, a freehold property taxpayer, and a qualified elector in Matagorda County, Texas.
