The Port of Bay City Authority has acquired approximately 100 acres just east of Matagorda Harbor between the Intracoastal Canal and South Gulf Road (known locally as “Cemetery Road”) for use in the construction of an industrial barge terminal. The rehabilitation of the Colorado Jetties at Matagorda was completed in early 2011. The work included the construction of a new east jetty and a major dredging. The channel is now 200 feet wide and 12 feet deep.

Matagorda Island is a Texas Wildlife Management Area (WMA) across the ICW from Port O’Connor to the south, and is accessed by boat. Visit the Texas Parks & Wildlife for more information.
